An eclectic roots band in the NC Raleigh/Durham Triangle, No Worries makes music steeped in all the Americana styles … blues / classic rock / country / bluegrass … originals, old favorites, and covers of great songs you’ve maybe never heard yet. No Worries is also the feeling you’ll get from their music. Fun, smooth, but seasoned — with a pinch of red pepper. Together since 2007, musicians from way back, their musicmaking tools of choice are guitars, mandolin, bass, percussion, and harmonica. Plenty of sweet harmonies too.
After soaking up the many cross-currents of 60’s and 70’s pop music, Richard
focused in on Americana before that was a word. He learned what a good song is
from master singer/songwriters including John Prine and Townes Van Zandt, then
started writing his own … and never stopped.
Richard’s songs carry forward the best Americana traditions, crossing freely over
country, rock, blues, and folk, with a focus on well-crafted lyrics … poignant, ironic,
or humorous. His roles in No Worries include vocals, guitar, harmonica, and of
course, songwriting. Richard also performs as a solo artist
Jim Amsden
Growing up on a farm in Maine, Jim built amps from surplus military vacuum tubes
and needed something to play through them, so he picked up the electric guitar. By
16 he was rocking & rolling local clubs … even his own high school prom. After
moving south to North Carolina, he started absorbing the new acoustic music of
bands like Nickel Creek and Strength in Numbers. Jim plays just about anything, but
in No Worries he straps on a mandolin, electric guitar, or acoustic guitar … and sings
too.
Jim also plays electric guitar in a rock & roll cover band: Moonlight Rescue
Rob Surra
Rob learned guitar as a kid in Buffalo then picked up the bass in high school. In his
travels through Cincinnati, Chicago and finally North Carolina, he has played
everything from 70’s punk to lounge jazz. As bass player and vocalist for No
Worries, he enjoys the rich, diverse range of roots music we play.
Rob’s other band is the instrumental jazz trio In2Jazz
Vince Miranda
Vince Miranda grew up in Mumbai. Fascinated by rhythms, he took to percussion
and learned a bit of guitar. In college, Vince performed in pop and Bollywood music
bands.
After moving to Virginia Tech, Vince started listening to “newgrass” from Tony Rice,
Norman Blake, Doc Watson, Mark O’Connor, and Bela Fleck. He fell in love with
their driving rhythms, technical dexterity, harmonies, and improvisation.
Besides No Worries, Vince plays percussion and guitar in the local Indian
community.
