Ally J Plays Yonder

Allison Johnson is a singer/songwriter based in Durham, North Carolina. Originally from Akron, Ohio, she relocated to Durham in 2007. Growing up, she sang in the church but never began realizing her full musical potential until moving to NC. Ally realized that her voice adopted characteristics of some of her favorite musicians; Etta James, Stevie Wonder, and Tracy Chapman. Her “old soul” lends textured vocals and sultry melodies that spin classics into jazzier renditions and her range spans from guttural blues to sweet falsettos and everywhere in between.
