Old 86 with Raven and the Remedy

Old 86 is an Americana band hailing from Durham, North Carolina made up of Susan Johnson (rhythm guitar and vocals), Alfred Reid (fancy guitar and vocals) and Matt Velkey (bass and vocals).   Their music has influences from many genres so you will hear a little folk, a little rock and roll, and a bit of Texas swing and the blues. They play original music from each member of the band, including from Susan’s new debut album “Forget Me Not”.  They also play their take on  tunes from Van Morrison to Simon and Garfunkel and Old Crow Medicine Show to the Beatles (just a little harmless name dropping!!). Their vocal harmonies may remind you of Peter, Paul and Mary transformed for modern times.

The Raven and the Remedy, North Carolina songwriters Leah Kaufman & Janet Buehler, mix equal parts of silly and sublime with a twist of kickass harmony. Their original songs have garnered awards from the South Florida Folk Festival, Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest, Intermountain Acoustic Music Awards and a few others. But it’s Janet’s riveting voice and Leah’s intricate guitar playing that seals the deal, making them an up-and-coming duo to watch.
