NC Soul Lifters bring three musicians with a lifetime of creativity and honing their chops and their craft. Blended together, they bring new excitement to the world of the power trio. Jason Barker is a guitarist and songwriter who has performed professionally for the past 35 years. A native of Durham, NC and an alum of UNC-Chapel Hill, he is active as a recording session musician, guitar instructor, and live artist covering a diversity of styles. In 1999, Barker received an award presented at a Chapel Hill-area middle school for demonstration of good character, honoring his contributions as a local guitar instructor. He served as the lead guitarist for the champions of the 2012 Triangle Blues Society Challenge, earning a spot in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.

Jim Roberts is a percussionist, producer, artist, and educator who resides in Chapel Hill, NC. His skills include drum set, djembe, congas, production, and performing with groups or solo. He is also an educator, teaching drum set and percussion at Elon University as well as directing the Elon World Percussion Ensemble for the last 15 years. He spent 11 years in Nashville, TN as a session musician, live performer, and studio owner. He studied music and culture in Africa and Cuba. His recording career includes Victor Wooten, Futureman Wooten, Craicdown, and The Horse Flies. He has released 5 recordings including his most recent CD, a concept album entitled “The Tao of Time”.

Glenn Jones is a talented electric and upright bassist, acoustic guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. While his bass playing is top-notch, his signature is his instantly recognizable powerhouse belting soulful voice. A lawyer in a long-gone past life, a near-death experience in 2016 led Glenn to vow to spend the rest of his life doing what he loves, making and writing great music. He has recorded three full-length albums and one EP, last summer’s “The Invisible Ones”. He is a hard worker, performing 180 gigs in 2018 and over 200 in 2019.
